Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam
TRAN NAO VILLA
The site is located in District 2 of Ho Chi Minh City, a quiet urban area that is rapidly being filled with concrete structures and closely packed houses.
The construction site has a rather unique shape: long and narrow, stretching from the riverbank deep into the urban core. The fact that one edge of the site borders the river provides a significant opportunity to create views and a connection with the natural waterscape for the house. However, the river being on the west side of the site poses a major challenge for the architect, as this is the direction of the harshest and most uncomfortable table sunlight in the southern Vietnam climate.
The site comprises two houses designed with spaces under tree canopies, evoking the feeling of living in a tropical garden.
The soft enclosure and porous skin create dynamic layers of space and light. Transparent glass walls allow for full observation of the area, and flexible openings enable enjoyment of the riverside landscape and the landscaped connection between the two houses, especially in the double-height common area. This landscape is formed by water features including a swimming pool and a waterfall combined with a scenic pond, providing a cool atmosphere for the house.
This design not only offers tranquility but also connects people with nature, enhancing family life quality and embodying the essence of tropical architecture.
